Christmas decorations- Deck the halls of Room 18

Good afternoon,

I hope everyone is going well. In the last couple of weeks I am bringing Christmas to Room 18. If you have any old decorations that you do not mind your child bringing in that would be great as we enjoy this festive time of the school year. Your Christmas decorations would be greatly appreciated. There may be a possibility that these decorations may not return in it’s original form, or at all, please keep this in mind when sending these.

It is optional so please do not feel obligated to bring in decorations.

Kind regards, Katina.

Site Open – Modified Education Program – 29 November 2018

Dear Families,

I am writing to inform you that Colonel Light Gardens Primary School will be open but providing a modified education program until 12.10pm on the morning of Thursday 29 November 2018 due to a vote for industrial action by members of the Australian Education Union at this site.

The Education Director has approved the provision of a modified program on the grounds that there will be sufficient staff on duty to enable me as principal to ensure that adequate standards of children/student safety and welfare can be provided. Families can send their children to the site as normal. OSHC will be running in the morning and after school as per usual.

Modified education programs will be provided to students until 12.10pm. Regular classes will not take place. This means that students will be supervised, but not necessarily with their current teacher or participating in their normal learning program. Regular classes will commence at the site from 12.10pm.

Please contact the school if you have any questions regarding this information.

Yours sincerely
Rick Bennallack
Principal

Concert t-shirts

Hi families

As you know the end of year concert is fast approaching. Our class along with Room 17 have chosen our song with a message:

Rise by Jonas Blue

For costumes we are asking that all students bring in a plain ( no logos) coloured top. On these tops we are going to do iron on transfers with the slogan ‘we don’t give up’. Students can choose any colour they like as long as it is not too dark. If students could bring their top in by the end of this week or Monday next weekthat would be great. Then I will do the transfers and send them home ready to wear on the night.

On the bottom students can wear black or denim (shorts, pants legging etc). They can style their outfit up with baseball caps, bandanas, sunglasses,  spiked/fancy hair, jackets etc. The song has a cool hip-hop vibe so we are trying to emmulate that feel.

Thank you,

Katina.

BELAIR NATIONAL PARK EXCURSION – Tuesday 27th November

BELAIR NATIONAL PARK EXCURSION – Tuesday 27th November

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Some form of rain is very likely in tomorrow’s excursion and students will need to bring along a water-proof jacket / raincoat to wear and an extra pair of dry socks in a plastic bag that they can put on when they return back to school. The 48 hour forecast on Weather Zone or similar sites keeps changing on the predicted weather for the day.

The good news with this excursion is that the Willunga Coaches that are bringing us up to the park will be there all day and we can be picked up earlier if the weather becomes too inclement. The other good news is there is plenty of shelter for large groups to be underneath in the event of rain.

A note should have gone out come home on Friday with all the details on what to bring. Please speak to your child’s teacher if you have any questions.

Kind Regards

Des Norman, Krista Gill, Katina Athanasos

BELAIR NATIONAL PARK EXCURSION – Tuesday 27th November

BELAIR NATIONAL PARK EXCURSION – Tuesday 27th November

Dear Parent/Guardian,

This a short note on what is needed for Tuesday’s excursion to Belair National Park on the 27th November.

Students will need to wear their school sunhat and to wear sunscreen as we will be outside most of the school day. The forecast is for a maximum of 21 degrees with possible showers. Please refer to the Weather zone 48 hour forecast for Belair closer to the day. We will let students know on Monday if a raincoat or umbrella might be needed. Children are to bring their own water, recess, fruit and lunch. Students are to wear their school uniform. They can bring a smaller backpack instead of their school bag to carry their gear on the day or share a school back pack between two or more friends and take it in turns to carry. Shoes with a good tread should be worn as the track might be slippery or have loose stones.

Planned Itinerary

  • Students will need to arrive at school by 8:45am and come directly to the classroom to be checked on the roll. At 8:50am (first bell) we will head outside to line up outside the school. The bus will depart the school at 9:00am. The bus is expected to arrive at the park around 9:25am.
  • We will first be walking down to Playford Lake then onto Echo Tunnel. Once we are at Echo Tunnel we will check to see if it is safe to pass through and back. If so, groups will pass through this.
  • From Echo Tunnel we will go to the Belair Nursery and in staggered groups have a 5-10 minute walk around inside. After seeing the nursery we will walk around Old Government House on the outside then go down to the Adventure playground where we can have our lunch, explore the surroundings and play on the equipment.
  • Students will have the opportunity in pairs or small groups to do a very easy orienteering course from the Adventure Playground. If we have enough time after lunch, we will go for a further walk into the park.
  • The bus will pick us up from the Adventure Playground and we will depart at 2:10 pm. We will arrive back at the school at 2:30 pm.
  • Please make payment by this Friday. Thank you to the volunteering parents who have returned their slips and have current DCSI and RAN training we have sent confirmation to those involved. We look forward to having you along for the day.

Kind regards,

Thank you to those parents that have volunteered to come along. We have have had many volunteers across the three classes (more than we need) so I will let you know before the end of the week via email.

Belair Excursion- Tuesday November 27th

Dear Parents

A note has gone home today giving details of an excursion to Belair National Park on Tuesday 27th November with rooms 16, 17 and 18. Students will be travelling by bus to and from the park. Parents are welcome to come along and supervise. Details of this is in the note coming home TODAY. We hope you can help out as we need students to be supervised in small groups. We plan to go to Playford Lake, Echo Tunnel, The Plant Nursery, Adventure Playground and do some very simple orienteering. Perhaps a car pool could be organised between parents at the park with cars parked just inside the entrance and at the Adventure Playground. We will be dropped off at the entrance at 9:25 am and picked up later in the day at 2:10 from the Adventure Playground. It will be a busy but enjoyable day. We trust the weather will be kind. Please bring back the notes promptly. We highly appreciate the parents who do this.

Kind regards,

Katina Athanasos
